The power of the iterator pattern is that it allows us to abstract the operation of enumerating(iterating) a collection. The compiler performs pattern matching. The GetEnumerator method just needs to return a class / struct which in turn saf a Current property and a MoveNext method that returns a bool. I dirilik highly recommend Eric Lipperts blog post about pattern matching
